Recruitment of Drivers to Grade III of the Combined Drivers Service for the Office of the Public
Service Commission

Applications are invited for the vacant posts of Driver in the Office of the Public Service Commission in pursuance of the approval of the Secretary of the Public Service Commission.
  1.  Recruitment will be made on open basis to two vacant positions from among candidates meeting required qualifications following a practical test and general interview.
  2. Salary :The Salary Scale applicable to Grade III, II and I of Combined Drivers Service as per Salary Code o fPL 3-2016 is Rs.25,790-10×270-10×300-10×330-12×350-38,990 in terms of Public Administration Circular No. 03/2016 dated 25.02.2016.
  3.  Employees are required to be subjected to policy decisions made by the Government in future on the Pension Scheme entitled to this post.
  4.  It is compulsory to serve at least 03 years in the duty station of the first appointment. However, the Appointing Authority has the power to transfer any officer before the expiry of such period owing to special circumstances as decided by the Appointing Authority if he deems it necessary to do so.

    4.  Age: Minimum age limit: Over 18 years -Maximum age limit: Below 45 years 
Note: Maximum age limit shall not be applicable for those who already hold permanent and
pensionable post in the Public Service.

 5.Educational Qualifications:
Should have passed G.C.E (O/L) Examination in six subjects with at least two credit passes
including Sinhala/ Tamil language in not more than two sittings.

5.4 Vocational Qualifications:
5.4.1 Should possess a valid driving license issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic for driving private/hiring cars and station wagons, tare of which is less than 24 CMT.

(A driving license in vehicle class C and C1 or a driving license in Class B under new procedure
should have been obtained at least three (03) years before the date of recruitment)
5.4.2 Should have a fair knowledge on the Highway Code.
5.5 Experience Should possess three years of experience as a driver of motor vehicles (The experience should be proved by certificates)
5.6 Physical Fitness:
Should be of the minimum height of 5 ft.

Should be of sound physical health and good eye sight so as to perform duties during day and
night. This should be proved by a proper certificate issued by a Government Medical Officer.

Should have completed all qualifications in every respect in such a manner as required by the
recruitment to the post as stated in 5.1 to 5.6 as at the date given in the Notice calling for
applications / Gazette.

6.0 Marking Scheme of the practical test is as follows:

7.0 General Interview :
Basic qualifications will be verified for recruitment and no marks will be allocated.

8.0 Correct information should be furnished in a careful manner when completing the application.
Candidature of an applicant may at any time be revocable if he is found to be ineligible when examining his qualifications. A candidate may be dismissed from Public Service if any information
he has furnished was found to be false at any time.

9.0 The application should be forwarded in conformity with the prescribed specimen form. Applications not consistent with it or those which are incomplete and not duly filled will be rejected without any notice. The loss caused by the incomplete and unduly filled applications shall have to be borne by the applicants themselves.

10.0 The top of left hand corner of the envelope containing the application should be marked as
“Recruitment to Grade III of the Combined Drivers Service”

11.0 All applicants who have tendered their applications on or before the prescribed date will be called for the practical test on the presumption that only those possessing qualifications stated in this notice have applied for this post. However, such invitation is not supposed to be an acceptance of the fact that the candidate has fulfilled the required qualifications for this post. Candidature of the applicants will be annulled if they are found to be without required eligibility according to the Notice at the time of the scrutiny of qualification upon invitation to the interview.

12.0 Following documents should be furnished to the Board of Interview:

12.1 National Identity Card issued by the Department of Registration of Persons/ valid passport to
prove the identity of the candidates.

12.2 Original certificates of G.C.E. (O/L) and G.C.E. (A/L) Examinations along with copies thereof
to prove educational qualifications.

12.3 Driving license as stated in 5.4.1 of the Notice calling for applications and its copy.
12.4 Certificates to your experience as stated to in 5.5 of the Notice calling for applications.
12.5 Grama Niladhari Certificate on Residential Occupation and Character.
12.6 Proper medical report issued by a Government Medical Officer as referred in 5.6 of the Notice
of calling for applications.
13.0 Any issue not referred to herein will be decided upon by the Director General of Combined Services.
All candidates are bound to comply with general rules set out in this Notice.
14.0 Applications duly completed in accordance with the specimen annexed herewith should be sent by
registered post to reach “Secretary, Public Service Commission, No. 1200/9, Rajamalwatta road,
Battaramulla on or before 2019.10.06 Applications received after the closing date will be rejected.
